Transcript for The Great Web of Water, segment 07 of 12

A hundred and seventy-five miles below Redding where the Sacramento and American Rivers meet, the city of Sacramento illustrates some urban values of the CVP. Nearby Folsom Dam helps control floods on the American River. Folsom Lake is a cool and handy refuge for millions during one hundred degree summers.

The Sacramento region uses large amounts of CVP energy. Downstream Nimbus Dam diverts irrigation to nearby food producing farms plus cooling water for the region's Rancho Seco Nuclear Power Plant.

In addition, the American River, once a summer trickle, is now a string of parks winding through the city, and fed by the steady flow of the rivers, the deepwater channel links this inland port with worlds across the sea.
